What is a Heat Pump?

Chinook Heating & Air offers heat pump installation in the Tri-Cities because a heat pump offers cool crisp air in the summer and gentle welcoming heat in the winter. Heat pumps aren’t just an alternative for a traditional gas or electric furnace, they can also replace a traditional air conditioner.

How is this possible? A regular air conditioner pulls hot air out of the home and blows it outside. This is what cools your home in the summer and makes an air conditioner unnecessary in the winter. Alternatively, a heat pump, “pumps” in warm or cool air depending on the season. That’s one of the key benefits of having a heat pump; one system can handle both heating and cooling.

Heat pumps offer reliability and efficiency every day of the year.  Since over half of the energy usage in your home goes towards heating and cooling, choosing a quality heat pump can have a large impact on your energy consumption.

When are Heat Pumps a Good Choice?

If your home doesn’t currently have a heat pump, installation will require replacing an existing air conditioner and furnace. Whether your home relies on natural gas or electricity for heating, a new heat pump could be the right choice for you. Heat pumps are typically more economical when:

  1. An existing electric or gas furnace needs replacement
  2. An existing air conditioner needs replacement
  3. Your current HVAC system is old, inefficient and generates expensive utility bills

Installing a new heat pump in Benton County can also qualify you for tax incentives. Up to $1500 is available to you after installing a new heat pump system. Contact Benton PUD to see if you qualify. Franklin PUD is also offering rebates on new systems of up to $5,000 depending on family income.  You can also see our rebates page or give us a call to see if you are eligible.
